“Remote Past a Memoir” is a compilation of Kawada’s earliest works that established his style as a photographer from 1951 to 1966. It was during the same period that Kawada presented his masterpiece “The Map.” In order to create the strong image and materiality of postwar Japan in the entire photobook, silk screen printing was applied over the cover, spine and edges, creating a presence like a black mass.
