This is a trilogy of key works by photographer Miyako Ishiuchi, focused on the theme of “belongings.” The series is rooted in “Mother’s,” where she photographed personal items belonging to her late mother; “Hiroshima,” which documents the clothing and belongings of women exposed to the atomic bomb; and “Frida by Ishiuchi,” featuring artifacts of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, sealed away for over half a century.
The cover design, featuring no text and only a title slip with a photograph of her mother taken shortly before her passing, symbolically embodies Ishiuchi’s artistic identity. It reflects her profound connection to her mother, whose presence serves as a poignant backdrop to the work, and her act of creating under her mother’s name as a form of legacy.
