2021 S/S collection of ISSEY MIYAKE is “UNPACK THE COMPACT.” Themed of packing all the clothes in one box, in a situation where it is difficult to move with pandemic, the clothes are packed and delivered to peolpe around the world. It was a story which made Tanaka think about the surprise and joy of the moment they open the box.

This collection was announced along with digital images by avoiding holding it in Paris and, creating a huge space in Tokyo. Tanaka was in charge of graphics and crates related to the show as well as installation design. Clothes that were small in a crate were expanded to the walls and floor of the space, and each became independent as a “thing.” It made the show embody the philosophy of ISSEY MIYAKE, including pleats, which has been thought over the years.
